A Memorable Stop at Lake Alva: A Hidden Gem on the Way to Kalispell

As we embarked on our family road trip from Helena to Kalispell, Lake Alva turned out to be one of the most surprising and unforgettable stops. Despite encountering a significant amount of road work along the way – a challenge in our RV – we couldn't help but wonder if it would be worth the detour. Trust me, it absolutely was!

Lake Alva offers both a day-use area and a camping site. On our visit, we primarily explored the day-use side. Even though there was plenty of parking available, we were the only ones there, creating a sense of tranquility that set the tone for our adventure.

The lake's serene waters beckoned, and there was even a boat launch area for those with watercraft. If you want, you can fish there as well. After a short hike along the lake's edge, we stumbled upon a picturesque rocky beach area that instantly captured our kids' imagination. They were enchanted by the shoreline's rugged beauty.

One of the most striking features of Lake Alva was the blissful quiet that enveloped the entire area. It was a refreshing change of pace from the hustle and bustle of our journey. With every step, we felt more connected to nature and each other.

We decided to hike in the opposite direction of the lake, leading us to a part of the lake surrounded by woods. The kids were equally thrilled when we came across a high grassy area, and their imaginations ran wild as they explored it. The tall, wavy grass gave us a playful reminder of the famous "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" children's book.

After our explorations, we returned to one of the fire pits on the day-use side. With great excitement, we lit a huge fire, perfect for grilling our dinner. The kids were fed, bathed, and tucked into bed, and as the stars lit up the Montana sky, we reflected on the magic of Lake Alva and the special moments it had given us.

Lake Alva was an unexpected gem that made our journey from Helena to Kalispell all the more memorable. From rocky beaches to tall wavy grass, from tranquil solitude to fireside dinners, our stop at Lake Alva was an adventure we'll cherish forever. It was a testament to the surprises that await when you venture off the beaten path. Our family left Lake Alva with hearts full of joy and anticipation for the next adventure on our road trip.
